Tarkovsky Quartet

French-German contemporary classical and new music quartet, formed in 2005 by pianist François Couturier and named after the renowned Russian film director Andrei Tarkovsky (1932—1986). Tarkovsky Quartet specializes in improvised chamber music and champions a broad repertoire, from baroque to present-day composers. The ensemble is signed by ECM Records.Couturier first brought cellist Anja Lechner, saxophonist Jean-Marc Larché and accordionist Jean-Louis Matinier to record Nostalghia – Song For Tarkovsky CD, his tribute to the iconic filmmaker, released on ECM in August 2006. The newly-established group began touring as the "Tarkovsky Quartet." In 2011, François Couturier presented the project's first album, Tarkovsky Quartet CD.
