Real name: Jean-Baptiste Henri Moeremans

Belgian saxophonist and flutist (b. August 11, 1866 in Brussels, Belgium – d. January 6, 1933 in Brussels, Belgium)

Moeremans is known for having recorded in 1897 the first saxophone solo. In May 1890, he emigrated to the United States, where he played for the United States Marine Band (Apr. 1899-Oct. 1902) and Sousa's Band. In 1907, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. Between 1897 and 1904, he recorded around three dozen saxophone solos and 21 saxophone-flute duets with flutist Frank Badollet for E. Berliner's Gramophone and Victor.
