Chalo was born in Luanda, the capital of Angola, in 1968. During his boyhood he was fortunate enough to encounter musicians from revolutionary bands like Os Merengues, and Os Kiezos. He moved to Portugal in the beginning of the 90s, where he studied and worked, hellbent to better his chances of becoming a full-time musician. Chalo Correia as a band retains the explosive, organic sounds of Semba* and Rebita*, but also remains in touch with the modern urban afro music scene in Lisbon.
