Creature Seed
Members: Dallas Cosmas, Simon Segal, Bindy Cohen, Susan Hume, Gerry Keyes, Peter Allan (9)
Emerging in the early 90’s, vocalist/pianist Susan Hume had been performing in music college, groups and theatre when she formed the idea of her own band around her songs. Atmospheric, melodic and intense, the band Elysian started performing on the live music scene of Melbourne, Australia.Original members included Dallas Cosmas (bass/vocals), previously of Silent Poets, and Peter Allan (guitar) who had recently relocated after a long stint on the Sydney scene.
As the band progressed in search to commence their first studio recordings, they encountered producer Simon Segal who would become integral to their recorded work. Settling on drummer Bindy Cohen who was with Yeah Yeah! and also Silent Poets progressed the band forward. Label interest came quickly as early demos were passed about. In need of a session keyboardist for recording, Gerry Keyes found a logical place to become a permanent member. The band Creature Seed was now complete.
As the band’s live reputation grew, they were signed to Sydney-based Phantom Records for the debut release, Four Shades Of Blue. This was well received by radio, music press and was aired on ABC’s Rage and Optus TV. A live television performance of one of their shows went to air also.
Momentum built with work on a follow up release. The band recorded enough material for an album in between live dates. Eventually, the self-title EP ‘Creature Seed’ was released on Blah Blah Blah. Tracks, Faultless & Nightlife gained airplay and a video shot for Symphony of the Seventh Need. Creature Seed were presented at Midem, 1999 at Cannes.
