Evgeny Altman (1932–1983) was a soviet cellist, member of Beethoven Quartet since 1974. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Sviatoslav Knushevitsky and graduated in 1955, receiving his PhD degree in 1958. Altman won the first prize at the Fifth World Festival of Youth and Students (1955) in Warsaw. Since 1965, Evgeny had been performing in a trio with Igor Oistrach and Natalia Zertsalova. He premiered many works by Nikolai Rakov, Zara Levina, Нина Макарова = Nina Makarova and other Soviet composers.
