Real name: Alexandre Douala

Born in Deïdo canton in Douala (Cameroon), Alexandre Douala was first influenced by his cousin Sammy Njonjy, a guitarist specializing in ambass-bay. After studying electricity, he took up music and first performed at his father's club in the Bonantonè district of Deïdo.

Supported by drummer Ebeny Donald Wesley then by composer, arranger and guitarist Toto Guillaume (producer of his first album Douleur in 1983), Alexandre Douala explores various other styles of the country, including esséwé, a style of the Sawa du coastline practiced during funeral vigils. In 1984, he released Nkumbele , then, in 1986, Wake Up Africa and, in 1988, Beneground, albums sung in Douala (his language) and which will all be a real success.
