Oswald

Real name: Omer Duranceau

born on August 27, 1910, in LaPrairie, initially aspired to be a lawyer, completing his studies at the Université de Montréal and Laval University. However, his talent for writing and humor led him to a career in entertainment.

In 1930, he began singing at CKAC while studying, eventually moving to Quebec City in 1933, where he worked as a scriptwriter and singer. He gained fame on the show Yvanoff et ses Tziganes and created the radio show Le magasin du père Mathurin.

Returning to Montreal in 1939, he worked on the successful show Les deux commères at CKAC and later became program director at CKVL. In the early 1950s, he created the popular character Oswald, who starred in Les Aventures D'Oswald for ten years.

Duranceau was also a successful singer, with a repertoire of nearly 3000 songs and a hit record, En avant Merche. After 1957, Oswald's appearances decreased, and Duranceau recorded a new album in 1961. He retired from singing and became a program coordinator at CKVL, focusing on his family.
