Real name: Zurab Babunashvili

Zesknel is the alias of Georgian musician Zurab Babunashvili. Zesknel's performances focuses on live improvisation ranging from slowly evolving textured soundscapes to drum-oriented polymetric explorations to looped vocal manipulations; a mix of unpredictable disruptions and conditions - integrated into the outcome. These intuitively constructed shows form their basis in ‘in-the-moment’ perceptions, rhythmical adventures and try to create a ritualistic unity with sometimes distorted, often dynamic and abstract sounds. Each live performance is a raw and visceral session: a wall of sound crossed by moments of poetry.

Zesknel's recordings are varied and stylistically ambiguous - a state of body and mind.

Zurab is a resident at the Tbilisi club Bassiani where he holds monthly live sessions sometimes up to several hours in duration and is also a resident at the radio-platform Mutant Radio.
