Steve Parry was born in Pontypool, an old industrial town in S.Wales. His earliest recollection of music was the drone of the church organ (his mother Anne being the church organist) living amid the sound of heavy industry, a Black Mountain landscape, some would say a strange mystical land. As a child he studied classical guitar from the age of 8 years and later the piano. Early music influences included Welsh Hymnal music and Military Bands. He studied the work of the composer John Cage and developed an appreciation of the 'avant-garde'.
