Lưu Hữu Phước

Lưu Hữu Phước (Cần Thơ, 1921–1989) was a Cochin-Chinese Vietnamese composer, a member of the National Assembly, and Chairman of the Committee of Culture and Education of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He was originally a medical student, the composing member of a trio with lyricists Mai Văn Bộ, later ambassador, and Nguyễn Thành Nguyên, later a dentist in California, composing patriotric songs in 1943. He was a posthumous recipient of the Hồ Chí Minh Prize in 1996. His Thanh niên hành khúc was the base of the 1948–1975 South Vietnamese National Anthem.
