It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear Ismaïla Toure, founder and member of the musical group Toure Kunda. Ismaila died this morning, at the age of 73, following a long illness in Paris. Ismaïla Toure was a beloved musician, artist, father and friend. He left an indelible mark on the world of music and culture. We are proud of his legacy and all the contributions he made throughout his life. Ismaïla Toure founded the group Toure Kunda with his older brother, Sixu Tidiane Toure, in 1978. The group achieved great success with their music which blended traditional African rhythms with funk, reggae and pop influences. They have released over a dozen albums during their career, and have performed at festivals and concerts around the world.
Beyond his musical career, Ismaila Toure was a passionate social and cultural activist. He worked to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, and was a strong advocate for peace, social justice and equality chances. We are proud of his commitments to the community and his convictions. The Toure family would like to thank everyone who has expressed their sympathy and support since the death of Ismaila Toure was announced.
