Billy Barton

Real name: John Grimes

Effective period / Period of releases: 1954 - 1964

a.k.a. Hillbilly Barton. First recordings in 1952 for Abbott Records, together with the until then unknown Johnny Horton. In 1954 he married the singer Wanda Wayne and recorded a few duets with her. In 1955 he signed to King Records. In 1958 he released his first Rockabilly singles on the small Fire label. In 1962 he used the pseudonym "Laurel London" to release "Don't Knock The Rock". Later was a songwriter for Benny Martin and Rose Maddox. His most famous composition was "A Dear John Letter".
