Omer Coleman Jr.

Real name: Omer Gene Coleman II

Effective period / Period of releases: 1986

Born: Sep 4, 1953
Died: Nov 17, 2020
Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri in the late 1970’s Omer was running a mobile disco that ended up using live instruments. It incorporated a spectacular stage show with smoke and light effects. Along with other stage props, including a spaceship styled car, the stage attention inspired him to create his first solo album in the early 1980’s under his moniker “Starship Commander Woo-Woo”. The record itself had a small amount of local success, enough that he started his own label “Remo Records”. The name "Remo" is actually his first name "Omer" spelled backwards. Releasing 2 Electro styled tracks similar to “Egyptian Lover” and others groups from that era he finally scored a local hit. Omer independently wrote, recorded, produced and released all of his records. By the late 1990’s after his frustrations with radio jocks and the way promotions let him down, he had moved to a gospel sound. Working with young talents and helping to get gospel based hip-hop artists more awareness, he is still active in the community.
