Gil Dech (born February 3, 1897, Yardley, Worcestershire, England - died November 1, 1974, Wellington, New Zealand) also known professionally as Gilbert Dechelette, was an English pianist, conductor and recording director. In 1930 Gil Dech spent three months in New Zealand directing recordings by the Rotorua Maori Choir which was the first large-scale recording session of Maori choral music ever to be undertaken in New Zealand. In 1936 he permanently settled in New Zealand.
