ANIMA – musica human mundane et instrumentalis was founded in Brazil in 1988 as an ensemble reflecting Brazilian musical interpretation and memory. Its initial structure was based on the early music movement and performances were oriented by historical features. These guiding principles have remained in place and been extended through the many formations that subsequently evolved.

The most recent (2008) formation of the ensemble ANIMA – musica human mundane et instrumentalis leverages artistic collaboration and cooperation to produce concerts with musicians Marlui Miranda – voice, arrangements, Brazilian indigenous recorders, percussion and research; Sílvia Ricardino – troubadour harp, research and arrangements; Maríla Vargas – soprano, research and arrangements; Paulo Dias – percussion, harpsichord, organetto, research and arrangements; Gisela Nogueira – viola de arame, research and arrangements; Luiz Fiaminghi – Brazilian fiddle (rabeca), research, arrangements, executive management and production, and Valeria Bittar historical recorders, Brazilian indigenous recorders, research, arrangements, executive management and production.
