Neerlands Hoop In Bange Dagen

Effective period / Period of releases: 1969 - 1987

Members: Freek de Jonge, Bram Vermeulen, Jan De Hont

Growing out of a cabaret group called Cabariolet (which released a record under the name De Paradijsvogels), Neerlands Hoop In Bange Dagen (often abbreviated to simply Neerlands Hoop) was formed in 1968 in Amsterdam by comedian Freek de Jonge and singer/musician Bram Vermeulen. Apart from performing comedy the group also composed a rock opera with the title Een kannibaal als jij en ik and formed a pop band called Neerlands Hoop Express. Their theatre shows and records were very popular in The Netherlands during the 1970s and the group is credited with revolutionizing Dutch comedy. In 1977 guitarist Jan de Hont officially joined, but not much later the group disbanded when Freek de Jonge decided to embark on a solo career in 1979.
