ANGUS ALLAN GILLIS (1897–1978) Cape Breton fiddlerHe played for many dances in Boston along with Alex Gillis and The Inverness Serenaders. His fiddling was appreciated everywhere he went. In 1933, he won a fiddling contest in Glengary, Ontario. In 1935, he recorded four 78 rpm recordings for the Celtic Records Label in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. One of them was a recording he had made with Dan J. Campbell. This recording included, “The Old-Time Wedding Reels Set,” which became a classic with performers to this day. Angus Allan continued to play the fiddle until his late seventies.
