Intestine Baalism was formed in the spring of 1991 by Seiji Kakuzaki (guitar/vocals) and Takeshi Ohkouchi (drums). At that time they played thrash metal, and performed under the moniker of Euthanasia. In the spring of 1992, one of Seiji's school mates, Katsumasa Yoshida, joined on bass, and they began writing and rehearsing new material. That winter they recorded a demo, but it never saw the light of day, as they decided to no longer play thrash metal. So, they threw out all of their old songs, and began writing death metal material.

In the winter of 1993, Osamu Somenoya, from Amduscias, joined on guitar and began gigging with the band. However, in spring of 1994, he quit and returned to his previous band. Following his departure, the remaining band members continued to play gigs, and changed their moniker to Intestine Baalism. In the fall of 1994, they recorded four new songs for their first official demo, entitled "The Energumenus", which has sold over 500 copies. That winter, Atsushi Miyata from Decapitation joined on guitar.

Soon after, they began to look for a label who was willing to put out a mini CD, and eventually, Repulse Records agreed. Their new material impressed the label so much, that the negotiations resulted in Repulse releasing their debut album, "An Anatomy Of The Beast".
