Mary Merche
Real name: María Mercedes Abréu
María Mercedes Abréu was born in Irún in 1927. She was the daughter of a Customs chief, but both her father and mother died before she was 8 years old, so she was educated in a school for orphans. At the age of 16, she married a pilot, but soon after she died of a plane accident, leaving her alone, without a home, and with a two-month-old son in her care. In this situation, some friends of her husband, the Sanz, very important jewelers who also owned a popular nightclub of the time, the Casablanca, knowing of her good vocal conditions, suggested that she sing in the nightclub of them.In her recordings she is accompanied, among others, by the Orquesta Plantación, Alberto Semprini and his Orquesta Ritmo-Sinfónica , or Tejada and his Gran Orquesta.
In the following years, Mary Merche dedicated herself to musicals, famous magazines, she appeared in the cinema from time to time, she did quality theater, in 1968 she premiered "Six Characters in Search of an Author", by Luigi Pirandello, at the Bellas Artes de Madrid, directed by José Tamayo, and even joined the trend of the so-called "Café-Teatro" during the seventies, completing an excellent artistic career.
