Biography
The Metropolitan Bopera House
Effective period / Period of releases: 1987
Members: John Marshall (7), Dan D'Imperio, Dave Shapiro, Gary Pribek, Tardo Hammer, Danny D'Imperio
This hard bop quintet was founded by drummer Danny D'Imperio, taking its name from the nickname for the Royal Roost, a popular Manhattan jazz club of the late 1940s. After a legal issue with the pompous Metropolitan Opera, which considered the name to be an infringement of their copyright, the group was renamed The Bopera House. It disbanded around the time that trumpeter John Marshall left to take a position with the WDR Big Band in Cologne, Germany.
