New Mongrels features a gathering of musicians such as Indigo Girls, Michelle Malone, Big Fish Ensemble, Caroline Aiken, and Gerard McHugh.
Founded originally by Haynes Brooke, named after his grandfather's "Smyth County Mongrels' Society". The society's purpose was "the joyful promotion of song and rhythmic utterance."
In the mid 1990's Haynes brought back the idea as the "New Mongrels" using the original charter.
