Elizabeth Wysor (1908-2000) was an American contralto vocalist. She was married to opera record producer Edward J. Smith.Obituary: Elizabeth Wysor, 92, formerly of Cape Cod, Mass., and Evanston, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 6, in Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, where she resided. She was a professor of voice at Northwestern University, Evanston, for 20 years before retiring as professor emeritus in 1973. Previously, she was a visiting professor at the University of Virginia and a professional opera singer touring in the United States, Canada and Europe. She made her concert debut in 1935 in New York and her operatic debut in Cincinnati as Fricka in Die Walkuere. She was a graduate of the Julliard School of Music and studied in Munich and Salzburg, both in Germany. Born in Easton [PA], she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mary B. (Ernest) Wysor. She was a member of Dennis Union Congregational Church, Dennis, Mass. She was a member of the Twelve O'Clock Scholars in Massachusetts. She had a book of her poetry titled "Moments of Radiance" published. Survivors: Sister, Virginia Purdy of Easton; nieces and nephews. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kirkland Village auditorium.
