Isherwood worked regularly with Karlheinz Stockhausen for 23 years. He has also worked closely with the composers Sylvano Bussotti, Elliott Carter, George Crumb, Hans Werner Henze, Mauricio Kagel, György Kurtág, Steve Lacy, Olivier Messiaen, Giacinto Scelsi and Iannis Xenakis.
