Vera Barstow

American violinist (born June 3, 1891 in Celina, Ohio – died June 10, 1975 in Pasadena, CA).Barstow began her performance career in the 1912-1913 season with concerts in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. By 1917, she was touring even more widely, playing, e.g., in Winnipeg, Canada; Baltimore; Chicago; Fall River, Massachusetts; and Forth Worth, Texas. In World War I, she played for U.S. troops at training camps in the U.S. and during a 3-month tour of France.
Barstow recorded for a variety of labels, starting with Lyric Record (ca. 1917-1920). Reissues of her recordings also appeared on a variety of smaller 1920s labels such as Arto Universal Record, Globe Phonograph Record, Mandel, Clarion (7), Cardinal (11), and Royal (23).
Later in the 1920s, Barstow moved to Pasadena, California, where she took up private violin instruction, taught at California State University, Long Beach, and coached the string section of the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra.
