Bell Laboratories - also known as Bell Labs and formerly known as AT&T Bell Laboratories - is part of the research and development unit of Alcatel-Lucent - merger of Alcatel and Lucent Technologies and previously the United States Bell System. As of 2016 it is known as Nokia Bell Labs after the Finnish company acquired them.

Bell Telephone Laboratories Inc. was established 1925 by Walter Gifford as a separate entity from AT&T which would take over the work being conducted by Western Electric's engineering department's research division. Bell Labs is headquartered at Murray Hill, 600 Mountain Avenue Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA.
