Contender was a Christian heavy metal band from Beach Park area of Chicago, Illinois, USA. Active until 1992.Originally formed in 1981 under the name Morning Star (13) by Ken Stilley and his cousin John Pennell.
Being an AOR / hard rock band under the Morning Star moniker, the band changed its style to heavy metal in 1983 and renamed to Contender.
