American singer.
Born Springfield, Massachusetts. Her father Sam Scheckter played in Cappy Barra's Harmonica Swing Ensemble in 1930's and 1940's.
Jane showed her musical talent early in life, singing and playing the piano from age five, and adding the violin at nine. She majored in design at Pratt Institute, while taking part in the theatrical productions there. She worked in fashion first then began singing in New York clubs at night, while holding down her design job by day. Her accompanist at the time was a young Barry Manilow.
