Óscar Velásquez, musician in all the extension of the word: author, composer, interpreter, director (of trio, group and orchestra), performer of several instruments (guitar, requinto, bass, among others), decided in 1964 to give green light to that musical project that decided to name it with the name of "Trío América".
Maestro Óscar Elías Velásquez Tobón saw his first light in the Robledo neighborhood of the city of Medellín (Colombia) on October 16, 1935.
In 1961, Óscar married with Mrs. Fanny Pineda Holguín and from this union eight children were born, today, professionals of music and other disciplines: Nelson, Elkin, Wilson, Óscar Jr., Mauricio, Adriana, Yolima and Lina María.
Maestro Óscar Velásquez, during his triumphant artistic career, has been part of different groups: Los Mensajeros, Los Porteñitos, Los Trigueñitos, Dueto Óscar Y Judith, Trío Ideal, Óscar Velásquez Y Su Conjunto, Trío Caribe, Trío Amistad, Trio Osarge , Leonel Ospina Y Su Trio, Noel Petro Y El Trío Latino, Trío Los Gallardos, Trío Fonseca, but his greatest successes have been achieved with his famous and recognized "Trío América", with "Los Auténticos del Son" and with "Óscar Velásquez Y Su Orquesta. " Óscar also made part of the best Colombian choir, "Cantares de Colombia" and the group "Los Charrasqueados". In addition, he accompanied in recordings and personal presentations to countless national and foreign artists.
