Per Gunnar Petersson

Swedish composer, organist and choir leader, born April 26, 1954 in Markaryd.

He graduated as a cantor at the age of 16 and studied organ, improvisation and composition for Anton Heiller at the Vienna Academy of Music in 1973–1977. Petersson continued his studies with musicology at Lund University 1978–1979 and completed a pedagogical supplementary course at the Malmö Academy of Music 1980–1981. He has also conducted special studies in composition for Knut Nystedt in Oslo. In 1978-2018, Petersson held the organ position in Älmhults parish and since 2019 he is an honorary member of KMR (Church Musicians' National Association).

Per Gunnar Petersson composes primarily for choir and organ but also other instruments. He has won several composition competitions. Petersson has received several awards and scholarships and his music is performed in Europe, North and South America.
