Het Nederlands Elftal (english: The Dutch Eleven) is the colloquial name for the Dutch national football team, which was first assembled in 1905 in the Netherlands. Also known as Oranje, a tribute to the House of Orange-Nassau, the Dutch hold the record for playing the most World Cup finals without ever winning the final. They finished second in the World Cup in 1974 (against West Germany), 1978 (against Argentina), and 2010 (against Spain). They won the European Championship in 1988.
At the peak of their success in the 1970s, the team was famous for its mastery of Total Football, earning them the nickname "Clockwork Orange", and they are widely considered one of the strongest football teams in Europe and the world.
