Mikko Nevalainen

Real name: Mikko Tapani Nevalainen

Finnish bassist, born 1952. Best known as the former bassist of Eppu Normaali, of which he was a member during 1979–1989. Was also in the classic lineup of Kollaa Kestää during 1978-79. Both of these are two of the most respected of early Finnish punk rock groups which in their different ways helped to define the Finnish new wave sound and gave breadth of inspiration and freedom to experiment to modern Finnish rock and pop. As such, with his crucial economic but deep bass pulses, Nevalainen helped Eppu Normaali maintain the rhythmical impetus he inherited from the departing four stringed genius and lyricist Mikko Saarela and with his anchorwork on kollaa's uniquely brilliant marriage of the avant-garde and pop, the Jäärhyväiset Aseille (a Farewell to Arms) album, he contributed at the heart's core to two of the greatest punk projects in European music at its best and should be rightly heralded for his very convincing work.
