Members: Matthew Covey

In 1993 Heather Mount and Matthew Covey decamped from the indie-rock crucible of Oberlin College.They then relocated to Trencin, Slovakia, and took up with an emerging local scene with prodigious drummer Palo Chalupka, and formed Skulpey. Infusing the jagged pop of Helium and Rodan with the polyrhythmic churning sound of local bands like Dunaj and Psi Vojaci, the band spent a year gigging around Slovakia and Czech Republic, including and early show at the Pohoda Festival. The band completed one U.S. tour and a SXSW showcase before going on what proved to be a more or less permanent hiatus in 1999. Covey and Mount continued to play into the aughts, doing limited European dates as “Schooner,” including the Sziget Festival in 2001.
