The Band of the Royal Swedish Guard can trace its beginnings to 1523 when king Gustav Vasa employed musicians to play for the court as well as serve in the military units that were the predecessors of the Royal Guard. The band took a noticable upturn in the late 1700s during the reign of music aficionado Gustav III.
