Australian brass band founded during the First World War by and for employees of the newly established steelworks, and enjoying only minimal financial support from its parent company BHP (2), the band began to attract notice in the early 1920's with contest successes both within New South Wales and inter-state.It toured the UK and South Africa in 1924, where it recorded 18 x 78rpm records produced with three different recording companies. The last recording in September 1924 was the Crystal Palace test piece Henry Geehl's On the Cornish Coast.
