Jos Steen
Belgian Blues & Avant-Garde musician (1954-2012)

"Composer / Singer / Guitarist / Pianist / Miscellaneous instruments / Writer / Artist / Count / Pataphysician.
Weird Mix of raw Country Blues and a scala of various music-styles.
Numerous concerts in Belgium through the seventies and eighties, all by himself, or in duo's, trio's ,or with his bands: STUPID PAINTERS, DE KOLLEKTIEVE ZELFMOORD, the CHINA PIG BLUES BAND.
Between 1986 and 2004: no public appearances at all. With great antipathy against the predictable speed of new technology in everyday life, he lived as a hermit in his mansion in his own county, far from the madding crowd. There he settled his 'Museum of Ancient Strings and Things'... a large collection of self-made objects, books, drawings, paintings... meanwhile he compiled his old and new recordings on 25 cd's ! (field- and houserecordings: no studio material)
The music of Jos Steen is a weird blend of wilful interpretations of early Country Blues, improvised and composed music, invented Ethnic Music, acoustic soundscapes... mostly performed on cracked instruments."
