Biography
Guckkasten
Guckkasten (Korean: 국카스텐) is a South Korean psychedelic rock band formed in 2007. The band consists of Ha Hyun Woo (Korean: 하현우; vocals, guitar), Jun Gyuho (Korean: 전규호; guitar), Lee Junggil (Korean: 이정길; drums), and Kim Kibum (Korean: 김기범; bass guitar).
Guckkasten's music is described as having heavy guitar riffs, high-pitched vocals, metaphorical lyrics and uncommon vocabulary. Their self-titled debut album, "Guckkasten", first released in 2009, earned them an immediate following within the indie music scene in their home country. The album had to be re-recorded a year later after the original was lost to a corrupted hard drive.
Despite numerous rookie awards and successful concerts, they stayed in relative obscurity until their participation in the second season of the South Korean TV show "I Am a Singer" in 2012. Interest in the band once more increased when member Ha Hyun Woo competed on the hit South Korean TV show "The King of Mask Singer" in 2016.
In 2018, Guckkasten was honored by the South Korean government with "Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation" at the annual "Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards".
