US jazz and blues tenor saxophonist who studied at Englewood High at the Kentucky State College. Born December 11, 1920 in Napoleonville, LA, died April 07, 2010 in Chicago South, IL

Do NOT confuse with US trombonist/co-writer of "Jersey Bounce" Edward Johnson (9); both artists played in Cootie Williams And His Orchestra.

He worked with Coleman Hawkins (1941), Cootie Williams And His Orchestra (1944 (?) or 1946) ; the house band of the Rhumboogie Cafe in Chicago (1942-43); Louis Jordan And His Tympany Five; Duke Ellington & Ella Fitzgerald; Marl Young and Walter Fuller
Recorded for Chess (1950s), Nessa and Delmark (1980s, 1990s)
