Thomas Kerbl

Since 1998, the state of Upper Austria has been awarding an award for special merits in the field of stage art, analogous to the existing regional culture prizes, endowed with S 100,000 (€ 7,267.28). The winner for the stage year 2001 is Prof. Thomas Kerbl, who teaches at the Bruckner Conservatory. In its reasoning, the jury acknowledged that Kerbl never took the path of least resistance. As artistic director, he gave the opera summer at Wildberg Castle, with an impressive range from baroque operas to Viktor Ullmann's moving "The Emperor of Atlantis", a demanding profile apart from other summer theater activities. Kerbl guarantees a high level as a musical engine. All of this with predominantly Upper Austrian young singers and instrumentalists - a result of his pedagogical competence, whereby Kerbl's merits also lie in the arrangement of the works according to personal and local conditions. The scope of his work can perhaps be better recognized in a preview, first of all in the year 2002: Kerbl is in charge of the "Passion - Easter" festival in Steyr ("The Messiah"), the opera festival weeks in Bad Hall ("Figaro's wedding"), the Musical Festival Bad Leonfelden ("My Fair Lady"), the Schubertiaden as part of the LIVA Arcade Courtyard Concerts, the Wildberg Castle Opera Summer ("Pimpinone" Part 2), the "Wien Barock" festival (Gluck: "The Pilgrims of Mecca") ), the musical festival in Bad Hall (the piece is still mentioned) and the "Winterreise", a cycle for LIVA. We congratulate our association member Thomas Kerbl, who has already selflessly used his artistic talent several times "for a Linz music theater"
