Cirkus Buster

Effective period / Period of releases: 1960

Members: Buster Larsen, Viggo Brodthagen

Cirkus Buster is both (1) a Danish TV series, (2) a traveling circus and (3) a feature film from 1961, directed by Erik Balling, written by Buster Larsen and with music by Bent Fabricius-Bjerre.

The idea for Cirkus Buster was created in 1959 by a young producer in the Danmarks Radio's BUS department, Niels-Jørgen Kaiser. The series was recorded in Tivoli's Concert Hall, where a manege was built on the stage. The performances consisted partly of performing children and partly of professional artists and actors. The central figure was the circus director, sprechstallmeister and the clown "Buster", played by the popular actor Buster Larsen. Although the experiment was predicted to have a short life, it became one of the biggest TV successes of the time and the series continued in 1960 until May 1961.
