Real name: Amy Eliza Castles

Australian dramatic soprano (b. Melbourne 25 July, 1880 - d. Fitzroy, Vic. 19 Nov., 1951)

Moved to Bendigo as a child and took singing lessons at the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy. Won a soprano championship at Ballarat in 1898, and first concert in Melbourne 1899. Toured Australia and then went to Paris to study with Madame Marchesi. London debut November 1901. Returned to Australia in 1902 to give concerts for JCW, but soon returned to England for further study and concerts including a Command Performance for King Edward VII. European debut in 1907 at the Grand Opera in Cologne. Back to Australia in Sept., 1909 where she toured for the Tait Bros. Gave her first opera performance in Australia 1915. Was singing at Carnegie Hall in New York 1917, and gave other concerts in the U.S. A member of Williamson Grand Opera which toured Australia 1919-1920. Gave concerts with her sister Eileen during the 1920. Returned to the U.S. in Oct., 1930 but was back in Sydney 1931-1933 where she gave radio broadcasts up until 1933.
