Edna White

American trumpet player (born October 23, 1892 in Stamford, Connecticut – died June 25, 1992 in Greenfield, Massachusetts)White was a child prodigy who began studying the cornet with her father at age seven and performed professionally from age nine. At age 11, she entered the Institute of Musical Art in New York (the later Juillard School) where she switched to trumpet, graduating in 1907. White embarked on a long and successful career in vaudeville and on records, performing either as leader of female brass quartets such as the Edna White Trumpet Quartette or as a solo trumpeter. Starting in 1916, she recorded first for Victor, then for Columbia and later for Edison.
