Das Neue Universum was founded in 1992 by Renke Bahlmann and Sebastian I. Hartmann in the village of Brake, Niedersachsen, Germany. They created what they coined psychonautic ambient music, mainly influenced by ambient and industrial works of contemporary artists and works of the socalled Demo-Scene. The name Das Neue Universum is translated to "the new universe" and unites the aspects of space exploration and the expansion of consciousness.
