In the Tol family - nicknamed Stein in Volendam - Simon was born as the third and youngest child, with a brother and sister above him. He received the first guitar lessons at the age of twelve from his brother Nico, who later played in Mon Amour (2) , among others. He has played in various cover bands since he was fourteen.
From 2008 he continued as a solo singer under the Volendam name Simon Stein. With this, he also changed his style of music by switching from English-language covers to Dutch-language music. His search for a new sound began in 2012, supported by other musicians from Volendam, including Tol & Tol (formerly with BZN). The result was his band Mission 10 with whom he released the debut single "Don't you get me wrong in 2014". The Band Mission 10 is an anagram of "Simon Stein". The changed style is described as "English pop, with a touch of rock here and there.
