Anthony Allen began his training in classical guitar under Alexis Chesnakov in London and continued his studies under Karl Scheit at the State Music Academy in Vienna. He also studied instrumental and teaching techniques under Jan Sedivka in London and Australia.

Anthony Allen lectured in guitar and lute at the Tasmanian Conservatorium Of Music. He has given recitals for Musica Viva and broadcasts for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. He is also founder and leader of the Renaissance Consort.
