Poncier is the fictional solo project of Cliff Poncier, a character from the 1992 film Singles portrayed by actor Matt Dillon and represented musically by Chris Cornell. Originally intended as a prop, Cornell was impressed by the song titles and decided to write the songs. "Spoonman" was re-recorded by Soundgarden and became a hit single two years later.
