Bill Moss

Real name: William Alvin Moss, Sr.

Effective period / Period of releases: 1964 - 1985

American gospel music singer, songwriter, producer, keyboardist, and label owner, active from the 1960s to 1980s. Born in Selma, Alabama in 1931, died in 2007. Married to gospel singer Essie Moss, brother of gospel singer Mattie Moss Clark, father of Bill Moss Jr. and and uncle to The Clark Sisters. Prior to 1960, Bill moved to Boston, MA, and sang lead for The Bibletone Gospel Singers. He then formed The Celestials. In 1963 he moved to Detroit, MI where he met and married Essie Moss (née Coleman), who was already an established gospel singer in the Detroit area before joining the Celestials. He recorded widely on Savoy Records, Jewel Records, Gospel Record Co., Malaco Records, Westbound Records, and Atlanta International Records, in addition to founding his own label Bilesse. He was inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
