Gary Hume
Real name: Gary Stewart Hume
English contemporary painter (b. 9 May 1962, Tenterden, Kent); lives and works in London, UK and Accord, New York. Gary Hume is best known as an early participant in the Young British Artists group. He developed a unique and recognizable artistic style, using high-gloss industrial paints on aluminum panels instead of regular canvas. Hume typically depicts everyday objects, such as his prominent "door paintings" series with life-size images of hospital doors; people and animals are deconstructed and dramatically simplified to primitive, abstract shapes, often with just 2-3 primary colors.Gary Hume graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1988. He participated in most of YBA's group shows organized by Damien Hirst, Henry Bond and Sarah Lucas (2) in the late 80s and early 1990s. In subsequent years, Hume had solo exhibitions at Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, Modern Art Oxford, Kunsthaus Bregenz in Austria and other prestigious galleries.
