The Basler Sinfonie-Orchester was originally founded in 1876 and since then its home was the Musiksaal am Steinenberg (Stadtcasino Basel). The Basler Orchestergesellschaft (BOG) funded the orchestra since 1921, from 1970 on a second orchestra (Radio-Sinfonieorchester Basel) joined the BOG. In 1997 both orchestras were merged into the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
