German orchestra at the Brandenburg Theatre. Its history can be traced back as far as 1866 and, after its reconstitution in September 1945, the orchestra introduced subscription concerts and built up its reputation with premieres of contemporary operas.
Following the reunification of Germany, the theatre orchestra named itself Brandenburger Symphoniker (Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra) under the leadership of its principal conductor Heiko Mathias Förster.
