Real name: Ιωάννης Αποστόλου

Giovanni Apostolu was born in Athens (or Menidi) circa 1860. From 1888 he toured as leading tenor singer for the Greek diaspora in Egypt, Turkey, Russia, Poland, and Hungary. In 1890 he went to Milan and over the next 14 years he sang in all major opera houses in Italy including multiple La Scala de Milano successive performances. He returned to Greece (Piraeus 1901-1902) and spent the last three years of his life in Milan and Naples. He died of a heart attack at the height of his career in Naples on 28 August 1905.
